Destiny Awards (NCDO)

Recognizing Creative Accomplishments in Marketing and Promotion

2011 Guidelines


Eligibility

The NCDO Destiny Awards are for local and regional destination marketing organizations that are members of the U.S. Travel Association.

Purpose

The Destiny Awards were created in 1993 by NCDO to recognize members for excellence and creative accomplishment in travel marketing and promotion, and foster the development of imaginative and innovative destination marketing promotion programs and activities.

Award Categories

I. Marketing Programs

A. Single, targeted promotion
B. Interactive Marketing
C. Full Campaign

Three awards are presented in this category; one for a single targeted promotion, one for an interactive marketing, and one for a full campaign. Entries may include individual or cooperative destination marketing programs or campaigns including special promotions; events/festivals; direct marketing; electronic, technical or interactive marketing efforts; creative elements in all forms of media; and public relations efforts targeted to either the domestic or international market. See the entry guidlines for more details.

II. Special Projects

Examples of eligible projects in this category include but are not limited to the following: development projects, i.e, building a new information center; tourism awareness activities that promote a wider understanding of travel and tourism as a major industry; programs that focus on the education, training or employment of current or future employees; crisis management programs; and socially responsible efforts such as hunger relief, community outreach activities and environmentally sensitive programs.


Submission

Destiny Award entries are solicited in the spring (between March and May) and winners are announced and recognized at the Annual Awards Banquet held during ESTO: Where Destinations Grow.
