In 2016, international visitors spent a total of $245 billion of goods and services in the United States ("travel exports"), including general travel spending, international passenger fares, as well as international traveler spending on medical, educational and cross-border/seasonal work-related activities. 

U.S. residents spent $161 billion abroad ("travel imports"). There was thus a travel trade surplus of $84 billion
