Domestic air travel rose 1.0% in August, extending July’s momentum during the critical summer travel season. Hotel demand remained soft, down 0.4% year-over-year, while short-term rental demand grew. National Park visits showed signs of stabilizing, down only 1.5%, compared with steeper declines earlier this year. Overseas inbound travel continued to lag, falling 2.9% in August—the fourth straight month of declines hovering around the 3% rate.The broader consumer environment remains mixed. While the overall job market has softened, the Leisure and Hospitality sector added 38,000 positions in August, pushing employment to 17 million—or about one in 10 American jobs. Travel prices remain stable, but overall economic sentiment is subdued, with demand disproportionately supported by higher-income households.
