U.S. Travel Association President and CEO Roger Dow issued the following statement on the Senate’s successful cloture vote that removes remaining obstacles to passage of Trade Promotion Authority:
“The travel community is thrilled and relieved that this trade measure, which is so very critical to the growth of our economy, appears destined to go to the president for signature at last.
“Trade issues are politically thorny, but the long-term benefit to the country is abundantly clear. Congress gets knocked around a lot for not getting anything done, but today’s positive outcome was about as hard-won as it gets, and the votes to advance TPA through both chambers took a lot of courage on the part of many members. We offer our most sincere thanks and hearty congratulations to the administration, Speaker Boehner, Leader McConnell and Ranking Member Wyden for not giving up on TPA despite the many very daunting challenges that have appeared in its path to passage.”
