U.S. Travel Association joined Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15), Visit Tampa Bay and local leaders for a “Travel Works for America” Power Hour at Port Tampa Bay in Tampa Bay, Florida on May 23. Leaders discussed travel’s essential contributions to the region’s businesses, workforce and economy.

“Our discussion with Congresswoman Lee, Visit Tampa Bay and local leaders was a meaningful opportunity to highlight the travel industry’s impact on the Tampa Bay region,” said Tori Emerson Barnes, Executive Vice President of Public Affairs and Policy at U.S. Travel. “From easing visa backlogs to modernizing our travel infrastructure, these policy priorities are key to supporting Tampa Bay’s growth and ensuring the region is ready to thrive during a landmark decade for travel.” 

“Congresswoman Lee’s support for the tourism industry is essential to Hillsborough County’s economy – supporting more than 61,000 jobs, creating nearly $9.4 billion in economic impact and generating $636 million in state and local taxes,” said Visit Tampa Bay President and CEO Santiago C. Corrada. “Partnering with U.S. Travel, our industry has an opportunity to benefit the citizens of Tampa Bay as well as communities nationwide. We are pleased to work with Congresswoman Lee to protect Brand USA’s funding, market strategically to enhance our global competitiveness, and enact safe and reliable processes and technologies that improve visitor travel both domestically and internationally.” 

The Power Hour spotlighted key opportunities to strengthen the U.S. travel industry. Discussions focused on capitalizing on the upcoming mega-decade of events to drive economic growth and reducing visa wait times through improved processing and security. Leaders also emphasized the need to create world-class airport customs experiences, invest in advanced screening technology and improve travel infrastructure to ensure long-term industry competitiveness and resilience.
