Geoff Freeman, President and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, issued the following statement, urging the swift confirmation of Sen. Markwayne Mullin as Secretary of Homeland Security:
 

"Sen. Markwayne Mullin has a proven commitment to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) core mission of protecting our nation’s homeland while enabling the safe and efficient movement of travelers and commerce. With upcoming major global events hosted on U.S. soil—including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games—this mission will be more important than ever.

"Modernizing the travel system, including the deployment of advanced screening technologies that strengthen security and improve the travel experience, must remain a primary focus of DHS. With the United States preparing to welcome millions of international visitors in the years ahead, DHS must be positioned not only to secure the nation but to do so in a way that enhances efficiency, reduces friction and reinforces the country’s global competitiveness as a top travel destination. We look forward to working with the administration and DHS to ensure the security of the travel system while supporting policies that promote lawful visitation and economic growth.
